Custom Made Foundation! Jaycee loves Melli Cosmetics

Yes, you read it right... Custom. Made. Foundation.
Have our prayers been answered?
Have our searches for the perfect colour, finish AND coverage come to an end?
Have we found ourselves another Holy Grail!?
I have the answer, my dear. The answer is Yes

For cosmetic companies to make maximum sales, they target only a limited number of shades that will appeal to the most amount of people, meaning that the chances of you finding a perfect shade of foundation is about 0.0001%

That is, until you discover Melli Cosmetic's Custom Foundation!

During a recent trip to Terrigal, in the Central Coast of New South Wales, my friend and I stumbled across the Melli Cosmetics Store which I have visited before but had never had the chance to have a custom foundation made up! I was greeted by a beautiful Melli staff member named Jess, who told me that by chance they had an available time to have a foundation made up... If I didn't believe in fate before then, I sure as heck do now!

As you could imagine, my excitement was peaking at this stage, so Jess had to calm me down by making me sit in the Melli Studio Chair and we discussed what I wanted out of my very own personalised foundation!

We decided on a foundation that was a build-able light-medium coverage that looked like real skin, with a half-matte, half-dewy finish.

While I focused on trying not to wee myself from excitement, Jess begun by choosing a base colour that was closest to my skin tone and adding colours shown in the picture to adjust it to the most perfect and flawless colour match in the history of the world

Jess explained to me that adding plenty of yellow and a little of the brown and champagne creates a perfect match for olive skin tones like us without being too pink, orange, grey or neutral.

Jess wrote down how much of every colour she used on my very own 'recipe' meaning I can give them a call whenever I need more foundation and they will send me a refill, or if I get darked in the summer, I can take in my foundation and have it darkened! Soooooo clever!

If you think my day couldn't get better, you're wrong. As Jess was finishing up making my foundation, the owner and someone who has inspired me as an artist for years walked in the doors, Melli herself.

Just like her pictures that I've seen on her website and Facebook page, Melli is absolutely beautiful in the flesh, and her makeup was flawless! As a very successful celebrity, and TV/film Makeup Artist and Brand owner, I felt so privileged to be able to share a passion and obsession with makeup with Melli and of course had to have a photo with her.

Jess finished off my makeup with a soft day-time eye and my favourite Lipstick from Melli in the shade 'Tropicana'

Obviously very necessary Selfie

It was so wonderful meeting Jess and Melli, thank you so much for having me in your store, I LOVE my foundation. Needless to say, I will be back very soon to pick up some more of your amazing products!

xx Jaycee

How I clean my Makeup Brushes!

If you're anything like me then you:
a) Hate cleaning your brushes
b) Discovered sigma's new brush cleaning glove and squealed for joy
c) Got annoyed because you should have thought of that idea
d) Grabbed the nearest credit card to buy it
e) Cursed when you saw the price tag and yelled 'oh hellllllll no' at your computer

If you're not anything like me, then let's just pretend you are and in the meantime I'll fill you in.
This is Sigma's new brush cleaning glove

The idea is that you apply some brush cleaning product to the glove, and use the textures of the glove to wash your brushes.

Yes, it's a great idea, but for $35, not including postage... no. Luckily, my friend Bailey shared something wayyy cheaper that will leave you with a lot more shiny coins than this one. So take a seat my flower petals, let me show you the way of my people (tight-asses)

This is a $6 silicone oven glove from K-Mart! See the resemblance? ;)

Does the same job! Everything else you need is in the palm of my hands hehehe

I use a little dishwashing liquid first to work a lather and remove any excess oil and grime, followed by SARD Wondersoap (just twist it up and scrape a bit onto the brush) to remove any stains (Mac Pro-long wear concealer I'm looking at you) followed by a little Bare Minerals Well Cared For conditioning brush shampoo, but you can use any shampoo, such as baby shampoo.
I would recommend using at least one of these products, as you don't necessarily need them all!

Easy Peasy! And so quick and comfy too! Lay your brushes out to dry and you're good to go!

11 Questions Tag!

I have been tagged by the nail goddess, Bailey, at http://www.forthelustofmakeup.com/ to do the 11 questions tag! Exciting right!

The rules are simple and as follows:
Rule 1: Post the rules.Rule 2: Answer the questions the tagger asked you, then make 11 new ones.Rule 3: Tag the fellow bloggers you wish.Rule 4: Let them know you've tagged them.

Bailey's Questions for me!

1. Milk, dark or white chocolate?
Dammit, it's only question one and I can't even manage to pick one. Can I have all three? Please?

2. Imagine you won the lottery. First thing that comes to mind, what would you do with it?
Invest in property. And yes I did hear my parents voices in my head when saying (typing) that. Although it would call for some SERIOUS make-up shopping sprees, I wouldn't want to get too carried away, I'd still want to work, maybe invest more money in starting a business and using it to my advantage

3. What was the first makeup product you applied on yourself?
I'm going to ignore lip glosses, because I'm sure we all did that at some stage of our childhood, but for me it was a BYS cream eyeshadow in a silver colour! I totally thought i was the coolest thing out and wore it to mufti day at school and everything

4. Fave tv series?
Dammit how could I pick just one? I seriously loved Desperate Housewives while it was running, but now it'd probably have to be Offspring on Channel 10. I love Aussie Dramas. A Place to Call Home is a close second.

5. 5 makeup items you'd pack for a summer holiday?
Easy!
1. Tinted Moisturiser, probably Estee Lauder DayWear+
2. Powder, MAC Studio Fix or Mineralise Skin Finish
3. Bronzer, NARS Laguna
4. Mascara, Maybelline Falsies or Estee Lauder Double Wear Mascara
5. Pink Lipgloss, NYX Beige gloss

With that being said, I never wear makeup during the day on summer holidays and would only wear these if I was going somewhere special at night

6. Pink or purple?
Hmmm pink! Especially if it's on my nails

7. Most used nail polish from your collection?
OPI Alpine Snow! And that has only been used about 3 times haha! I am a nail polish snob and struggle to wear the same colour more than once

8. iPhone or Android? Why?
iPhone because life is so much easier when you give in to Apple

9. Favourite online shopping store?
I'm automatically thinking about makeup, in which i would have to say beautybay.com haha if it's clothing, then forever21.com or even amicubwear.com

10. Favourite take away food?
Thai Food! Sooo yummy and perfect any time of the year #msgcomeatme

11. What do you look for in a beauty blog?
Humour! Mostly because I try and be funny but fail 100% of the times, so it's fun to enjoy other peoples blogs hehe I also like pictures

Thanks for tagging me Bailey :-)

Questions I want to ask:
1. What's more important to you? Makeup or Skincare?
2. Are you allergic to anything?
3. Single one makeup product you could never live without
4. Makeup step that you absolutely suck at
5. Summer or Winter? Why?
6. Favourite food to indulge in
7. Guilty pleasure songs (songs you listen to but don't tell anyone you listen to because how embarrassing)
8. Are you OCD about anything?
9. What's your HG Foundation?
10. What's your view on stiletto nails?
11. What's the most you have ever spent on a beauty related product

I tag anyone who would like to join the tag!!

Jaycee xx

Shiny New Blog

I'm one of those OCD people that everyone hates because I only like things when they are new and come in pretty, neat packaging... If we could now compare the pretty new things that I love, to this blog than needless to say, I'm secretly hoping you're the same so that you can love and find humour in my shiny new blog the way I love shiny new things in pretty packets. And maybe even learn a thing or two about Make-up. Muhaha

For you to get to know me a little bit, I'd like to introduce you to a few of my all time favourite products, dare i even say, HG material... (And if you're not familiar with online makeup lingo, HG stands for Holy Grail, meaning it is a product I enjoy so dearly, I consider it an item i cannot live without)

Skincare:

-Skin Physics Anti-Oxidant Cleanser: 'A daily Cleanser enriched with super anti-oxidant to cleanse and revive the skin'

-Skin Physics Anti-Oxidant Night Cream: 'Enriched in super anti-oxidants to moisturise and hydrate skin overnight'

I received both of the above products for free when i purchased my Skin Physics DermaSonic Brush (more on this soon), basically an Aussie brand knock off of a Clarisonic (and exactly the same for less shiny coins in my opinion).

They help keep my skin clear and glowy no matter what time of the year, or 'month'. Sooooo HG

-LUSH Tea Tree Water: $19.95
http://www.lush.com.au/shop/product/product&product_id=97

Absolutely love this shiz! I spray it onto my face in between cleansing and moisturising, let it absorb, then pat it into the skin. So fresh

Makeup:

-Bourjois Healthy Mix and Healthy Mix Serum Foundations: Around $17 from ASOS
http://www.bourjois.co.uk/catalog/make_up/complexion/foundation/healthy_mix_foundation

For the price, the quality of these is seriously unbeatable. If you told me I was using a luxury brand when applying these, I would believe you. They are perfect for everyday wear, however lack longevity, so do require a primer and setting powder

-Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer: $35 Mecca Cosmetica
http://www.meccacosmetica.com.au/shop/Nars/RadiantCreamyConcealer/

This is the best shiz. The best. Concealers are the number 1 reason I have trust issues, always making claims like brightening, non-crease, won't leave you alone at night etc etc, but it's all lies!
Then there is Nars. For once a concealer that does exactly what it promises! Brightens and covers dark under-eye circles and DOES NOT SMUDGE. So good, worth every penny

-Ben Nye Banana Powder: $20 Scotty's Makeup
http://www.scottysmakeup.com.au/Product/Ben-Nye-Banana-Visage-Poudre.html

Yessss I do like being yellow! Yes foundations and powders with pink under-tones make me extremely angry, especially when important makeup assistants at YSL match you up to one and insist it is a perfect match and force you to buy it immediately. Well HA you silly YSL lady... i refuse to make that little bottle collect dust in my makeup drawer, because i have a secret weapon to combat pink toned foundations... Banana powder. Take that. The best, that's final. And no, before you ask, it doesn't smell like bananas.

-Carmex Lip Balm: $6 Woolies
http://australia.mycarmex.com

The only lip balm to ever actually hydrate lips. Yes I went there. Actually HYDRATE lips, not just put a sloppy wax mess over your lips with no benefit. I have most probably been through about 558 tubes of this stuff and it still remains the best.

Hope you enjoyed my first blog post!
Until next time,

xx Jaycee
